Training

Typhoon Aircraft.

Fit for role - Fit for operations

A key part of 7644's work is ensuring that Squadron personnel are prepared for operations.

While the people we recruit will have many of the professional and technical skills required to do the job, we ensure they have the military skills necessary to work as part of a UK operation. We also train all personnel to ensure they have at least basic imagery and audio gathering skills, so that they can provide multimedia content.

Basic training

All RAF Reserves personnel go through the Basic Recruits Course (BRC) at RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire.

BRC teaches the basic skills and knowledge required by all RAF personnel, from aircraft types to first aid and weapon handling.

Officer training

All Squadron personnel are required to complete the Reserves Initial Officer Training (ROIT) course. This takes place at the Royal Air Force College, at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire.

ROIT teaches the leadership skills that the RAF expects of its officers. When personnel meet the standards required and pass the course, they will be fully fledged reserve officers in 7644 Squadron.

Further training

Training never stops in the Squadron.

Throughout their career with 7644, each member of the Squadron will have refresher training in military skills. Before deploying on operations, they must also complete the RAF's pre-deployment training package.

The Squadron also organises or takes part in exercises, where personnel get the opportunity to practice using their communications skills in the - sometimes challenging - environment of a military operation.
