When something goes wrong with an aircraft, its crash alarm goes off. In under three minutes, a team of Firefighters will be on the airfield, fully kitted out, behind the wheel and water cannons of a specialist RAF fire engine.
Every second counts. Once the aircraft has landed, the Firefighters have a further three minutes to get the crew to safety. And with dangerous materials like weapons, ammunition and explosives on board – anything can happen in those few precious moments.
That’s why Firefighters are highly trained in fire safety and emergency response – so whether they’re saving the lives of aircrew and passengers, preventing damage to aircraft making emergency landings, or answering calls to station living quarters – Firefighters are ready for anything.
The question is – do you have the courage, strength and physical fitness needed to fight fires in the RAF?
