Physical Training Instructor Pay after one year: £25,880

Joining age: 17½-29

Open to: Men and women

Qualifications needed: GCSEs/Standards at Grade C/3 in English Language and at Grade G/6 in Maths. You must also pass a series of standard fitness and sports tests, assessed on fitness, sports skills, swimming ability and personality

Qualifications you can gain: European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL), Boxercise, Speed Agility Quickness Qualification, National Pool Lifeguard Qualification

Are you fit and active? Are you motivated, a leader, a team player? Can you encourage others to stay fit and healthy too? Then Physical Training Instructor (PTI) could be the role for you.

Fitness is an essential part of RAF life, and PTIs work tirelessly to provide lots of different sports and training programmes to ensure RAF staff are ready for action – everything from routine circuit training classes to parachute and adventure training.

As well as instructing classes, you’ll conduct fitness tests, provide fitness and health counselling, and even work in a remedial role – working with injured soldiers to regain their fitness, or develop new programmes to deal with their injuries.

You’ll also be encouraged to go on to specialise in adventure training, parachute jumping or exercise rehabilitation.
