  • Sweltering heat
  • Close, humid conditions
  • Dense, noisy wildlife, creating a tense and stressful environment
  • Insect bites
  • Poisonous snakes
  • Lots of vegetation – not all edible!
  • Getting lost or ambushed in the thick plant life

So who needs jungle training? And what would they learn?

  • It’s key for RAF Medical Officers to receive proper training in how to deal with this poisonous terrain. They need to know how to:
    - Treat snakebites
    - Identify and take care of different tropical diseases
    - Respond to heat-related illnesses
  • During an intense 28-day course, front line troops train how to:
    - Build durable shelters
    - Find safe food and water
    - Navigate safely through dense jungle vegetation
