Our role abroad
The RAF is a fighting force, and we are always ready for combat, but, in the last half-century, despite recent events in Afghanistan and Iraq, combat operations have been relatively rare and the emphasis has been on peacekeeping.
We work alone, as part of major international operations, with other elements of the UK’s Armed Forces and with international allies. The defence of UK interests, anywhere in the world, is always given a high priority.
In trouble spots around the globe, we also help police the skies and support peacekeeping and reconstruction initiatives.
Around the world, we are always willing to provide humanitarian aid to the victims of war and natural disasters.
