Reverend Doctor (Squadron Leader) Giles Legood BD MTh DMin AKC RAF
The Revd Dr Giles Legood is the RAF Instructor at the Armed Forces’ Chaplaincy Centre, Amport House. The AFCC provides chaplaincy-related training, education, support, and research to chaplains and the wider Defence community. Its mission is to sustain and enhance the effectiveness of spiritual support, pastoral care, and moral guidance in the Armed Forces and across Defence.
His previous posting was as the Station Chaplain at RAF Northolt/Uxbridge in west London. He says, "Prior to joining the RAF full-time, I was a Reservist Chaplain in the Royal Auxiliary Air Force for a few years. This was a great time. I was attached to an auxiliary squadron,
got involved in Squadron life and also helped out the full-time chaplain on the same Station when needed. All this allowed me to get a taste of service life and the chaplain's part in it. I was ordained for 15 years before I went full-time, so RAF chaplaincy is not just for keen young things not long out of College! I had previously been in parish ministry but immediately before joining was a university chaplain. I have found that much of the work is similar, although I have enjoyed exercising my ministry in a new environment and having exciting new experiences.
