FlightLieutenant Steve Hewer - Captain
Flt Lt SteveHewer joined the RAF in Feb 1996 as a Navigator direct from school. On completion of the Air Navigation Courseand helicopter flying training he was posted to RAF Odiham to fly the Chinookwith 18(B) Squadron. Having completedtwo tours as a navigator serving in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, the FalklandIslands and Iraq, Steve then undertook pilot training at RAF Shawbury beforereturning to 18(B) Squadron in 2006. Steve is currently the Chinook Wing Qualified Helicopter TacticsInstructor, the Chinook Wing Standards Officer and the Squadron StandardsOfficer and has completed six tours in Afghanistan. Steve has flown over 2700hrs on the Chinook and is this year’s display captain. Steve is married to Michelle and has 2 youngsons. His interests include cricket,playing electric guitar and motorsport.
FlightLieutenant Chris Boddy - Co-Pilot/Manager
Flt Lt ChrisBoddy joined the RAF in 1999 after 2 years on the University of Birmingham AirSquadron whilst completing a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. He has flown 9 marks of RAF aircraftincluding Puma and Chinook helicopters. He has completed 11 front line operational tours including a total ofnearly 2 years in Afghanistan, Iraq and a 3 year tour in Northern Ireland. He enjoys travelling and sports includingsailing, snowboarding, running and motorsports with both cars and bikes. This year as well as being a flying member ofthe crew Chris is also the display manager.
FlightLieutenant Mike Anderson - Co-Pilot
Flt Lt Mike Andersonwas born in Durham and graduated from Lancaster University with a BA(Hons) inPolitics and International Relations. Hespent the two years following graduation teaching Kayaking, Open Canoeing and travelling. Mike joined the Royal Air Force in 2003 andfollowing flying training was posted to 27 Squadron in December 2007. Since then he has deployed to Afghanistan insupport of Op HERRICK six times and completed various training and exercises inNorway and Africa. Mike is currently aTraining Captain on 27 Squadron A Flight and will be deploying to Afghanistanagain at the end of the display season.
MAcr Mark‘Ginge’ Bradley - Crewman
MAcr Mark Bradley joined the Royal Air Force in1995. After completing his basic rotaryflying training at RAF Shawbury he was posted to fly the Chinook with 18(B)Squadron based at RAF Odiham. During hisfirst tour he undertook operational detachments to Northern Island, Bosnia,Sierra Leone and the Falkland Islands. In 2000 he moved to 7 Sqn and continued his operational career withdeployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. Having completed his Qualified Helicopter Instructor’s course, in 2008he rejoined 18(B) Sqn as a crewman instructor on the Chinook OperationalConversion Flight where he remains as the senior crewman instructor. Mark is married to Jenny and has twochildren, Hannah and Joseph. In hisspare time he likes to spend time with his family and enjoys music, campanologyand hill walking.
MAcr BobSunderland - Crewman
MAcr Bob Sunderland is a 41 year old Yorkshire man who was born and bredin Bradford. He joined the RAF in July 1992 as an Aerospace systems operator.After 3 years living in bunkers around the UK he decided to venture aboveground and after attending the Officer and Aircrew Selection Centre was selecte d for airmen aircrew training as a loadmaster. Following helicoptercrewman training on the Wessex helicopter at RAF Shawbury he was posted to RAFOdiham to fly the Chinook. He has sinceserved on all 3 of the Chinook squadrons at RAF Odiham including detachments toNorway, Denmark, Bosnia, the Falkland Islands, Sierra Leone, Botswana, America,Belize, the Indian Ocean, Pakistan, Iraq and Afghanistan. Bob has over 4000 hours on type and is also acrewman trainer, Air Gunnery Instructor and Qualified Helicopter TacticsInstructor, and is currently the crewman training officer for 27 Squadron. In his spare time Bob is studying for aMasters degree in Air Transport Management as well as trying to improve hisculinary skills much to the amusement of his wife Amy. This is his first yearwith the Chinook display team.
