Aim of the Course
The aim of the course is to train photographers of all three Services and Civilians in specific aspects of media operations, prior to their employment as a stills photographer with a Combat Camera Team, Mobile News Team or other Media Posts.
Outline of the Syllabus
The course looks at the role and function of Defence Media & Communications, Defence Media Operations Centre (DMOC), all Service public relations activities and the requirements of the media including the different ‘house styles’ of the UK press. In addition the training also looks at the various EEC and UK laws relating to photography of children and vulnerable adults, copyright laws, Data Protection and other related topics.
The training is designed to move the photographer away from the traditional style of tightly composed images to a more open photojournalism style of photography. The training consists of practical exercises working in challenging environments to tight deadlines.
International Entry Standards
Because of the nature of this course - to qualify all students must be qualified photographers who have been selected for Media Operations. All applicants must have successfully completed the Defence Photographers Course or a civilian equivalent.
