Aim Of Course
The aim of the course is to train Service and selected MoD personnel to fulfill the duties of an Royal Navy Leading Airman Photographer, Army Royal Logistics Corp Corporal Class 1 Photographer, Royal Air Force Leading Aircraftman Photographer, MoD Photographic Officer Group Photographer Grade E1.
Outline of the Syllabus
The syllabus includes the following topics: health safety environmental protection, photographic underpinning knowledge, photographic principles, equipment maintenance, quality assurance, information technology, digital workflow, colour management, handling & storage of equipment and materials, digital cameras, camera controls menus and settings, exposure control, electronic flash equipment, imagery finishing, administration, minilab and inkjet printing, process control.
The course is skills based - divided 1/3 underpinning knowledge reinforced by 2/3 practical application. The practical training covers a wide range of subjects divided into six broad areas: Engineering Support, Technical Support, Corporate Communications, Uncontrolled Action, Operational Support and Special to Service Requirements.
Photographic training takes place within the classrooms / studios of the Defence School of Photography, the hangars / workshops of DCAE Cosford, the local surround area and other military environments when the opportunity arises.
All trainees are given the opportunity to gain a Modern Apprenticeship in Photo Imaging whilst on course.
