Aim Of Course

The aim of the course is to equip those involved in media relations must have a full and rich understanding of the environment they work within and possess all the skills needed to operate within it.

Outline of Syllabus

By the end of the Course students will be able to:

  • Contribute to Campaign planning
  • Deal with the media in crisis situations
  • Liaise effectively throughout UK MoD’s media organisations
  • Build relationships with journalists
  • Appreciate high level broadcast media requirements
  • Understand the relationship between Media and Information Operations
  • Conduct effective and meaningful media monitoring and analysis
  • Use relevant media equipment

The Course is delivered through traditional lectures, media visits, practical training, discussions, seminars and a Command Post Exercise (CPX).

International Entry Standards

Officers of UK and International Armed Forces and civilian staff of the Ministry of Defence who have been selected as being deployable for media operations duties, as well as media officers from NATO/EU nations. The Course is very intensive, with evening work, and requires previous media knowledge. Thus, prior to attending Advanced Course all personnel should have completed the Foundation Media Course (8209) or have previous media experience.
