Joining Liverpool University Air Squadron is simple, but not necessarily easy. If you are interested in joining, you should seek us out at any of the Freshers' Fairs detailed in the recruitment dates page.
At the recruitment events you will be able to chat to existing students and, if you wish, you will be given a brief, informal interview in which you will be asked about yourself and your motivation for joining the Squadron. Successful candidates will be invited for a more formal interview at a later date.
Some preparation would be advantageous. Not only will staff require an overview of your background and the skills you have acquired prior to university, but they will also look for a strong motivation for joining, a firm grasp of current affairs and knowledge about university air squadrons and the Royal Air Force.
To prepare adequately (although it may seem hard to fit in preparation during your Freshers week!), it may be worth reading a couple of broadsheet newspapers. Try researching current affairs topics on the internet and have a general understanding of the Royal Air Force and its operations. By clicking links you will find a short selection of websites which may help you. Furthermore, it is important that you sell yourself: don't be shy! Let the staff know your strengths, whatever they might be, and they'll potentially reward you with a place on the Squadron!
If you are awarded a cadetship or a bursary in the Royal Air Force, you will automatically become a member of your local university air squadron. Details of bursaries and cadetships can be found at www.rafcareers.com
