Lord Lieutenant Visits RAF Halton

The Queen’s Representative, the Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire visited Royal Air Force Halton recently to cement the bonds between the RAF station and the community.

Having spent the morning visiting various sections on the station, including the renowned WWI Trench system, the Lord Lieutenant, Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, then took part in the The Lord Lieutenant signs the visitors book at Halton House Officers’ Messgraduation of the RAF’s newest airmen.

Marching onto the parade square at RAF Halton, 68 airmen paraded in front of the Lord Lieutenant to mark their successful completion of nine-weeks of basic training. Sir Aubrey-Fletcher said: “It’s very inspiring to see people taken from civilian life and in a very short space of time perform as they did today; they did a very good job.”

Furthermore Sir Aubrey-Fletcher watched as AC Adam McGlashan stepped forward to receive the Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire’s Trophy which is awarded to the recruit who achieves the highest overall standard in all aspects of training. Sir Aubrey-Fletcher said: “An excellent achievement! I understand that AC McGlashan is set to be an engineer which is something I’m very interested in.”

Basic training at RAF Halton is designed to take the new recruit and transform him into an airman fit for Operations by laying in place the foundation stones they will build on throughout their career. Carefully structured, the course builds robustness, resilience, discipline, respect and integrity amongst a raft of other military skills.
