Northumbrian Universities Air Squadron
Northumbrian Universities Air Squadron (NUAS) was formed in 1941 and is one of 14 University Air Squadrons (UAS) spread throughout the UK.
It is made up of students from Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teeside Universities. Its role is to provide flying training to all its members, as well as leadership training, personal development, and much more. The UAS is a volunteer reserve squadron and its members have no obligation to join the military upon graduation.
NUAS is made up of six permanent members of staff and approximately eighty students and is based at RAF Leeming, where a shared fleet of four aircraft is based. The squadron has its Town Headquarters in central Newcastle where weekly Town Nights take place.
