The Don Halliday Trophy

Presentation of the Don Halliday Award Don Halliday entered the Royal Air Force in 1964 as an Apprentice Technician and then served for 6 years at Commcen Central, RAF Stanbridge. He was then commissioned into the Supply Branch in a variety of posts until his retirement in 2004.

A Scottish Schoolboy International on entry to the RAF, his athletic career remained low-key during intial training. he broke into the International scene in 1969, gaining his first GB vest against the USA at the White City. His International career spanned 6 years, 28 full GB appearances, 2 Commonwealth Games, 3 European Championships and the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. With personal bests of 10.3 for 100m and 20.8 for 200m, he won the AAA's 100m title in 1973.

He won RAF and Inter Service titles 1968 through to 1978. He served the RAFAA in numerous posts, including Team Captain, Team Manager and Development Officer. In 2005, he still holds the Inter Service Record 0f 10.4 secs for the 100m, acheived in 1971. He was awarded the MBE in the 2001 New Years Honours List and the Sir Andrew Humphrey Trophy in 2003. In the years before he retired, he was most involved in match scoring and the production of results and rankings.

This trophy is donated to maintain his links with the RAFAA and to inspire RAF Athletes, Track and Field, to strive for their best and acheive their goals.

The Trophy is awarded annually for the most valuable contribution to the RAF Athletics Team, as chosen by the Team Manager. It can be given to an athlete or coach.
