RAF HISTORY – A BRIEF GUIDE TO THE RESULTS
For some time I have been cataloguing a mass of paper results, reports, programmes and photographs from the RAF Athletic Association. These cover the period 1918 to the current day most of which were kindly lent to me by Hugh Barnfather. I am now scanning these items and intend uploading them onto this website. One of the major hurdles we have to overcome is the size of individual files and the slow speed of my internet connection down here in the Falklands.
I have posted all the Men’s and Women’s RAF Track and Field Championship results I am holding at present. The missing and incomplete results are as follows:
Men: 1919 to 1939 – winners only; any results or information on these early years would be appreciated.
Missing; 1948
Incomplete; 1953, 76, 77, 78, 79, 80, 92, 93, 94.
Women: Missing; 1950, 51, 53, 57, 76, 77, 78, 92, 93 & 2003.
I have also compiled a list of all the winners of each Track & Field event from 1919 up to the present day – men only so far. See that under the RAFAA Hall of Fame tab. I am currently working on similar lists for women and for the RAF Cross Country Championships. It is fascinating to see some of the names from the past and to compare times and distances achieved throughout the years.
The Inter Service Track and FieldChampionship results have now been added. The missing results are as follows:
Men and Women: 1948, 75, 77, 78, 87, 88, 90, 92, 94, 95
Women: 1966, 69, 72, 81
If you have any of these results, I would be grateful if I could borrow them to scan in. Please send me a Query in the first instance.
There is a wide spectrum of cross country, track and field and even race walking, with some interesting photographs still to come. I am grateful to Hugh Barnfather, Phill Kafel and Pam Wheeler for their contributions.
