Trafford AC - Grand Prix Meeting - 12 May 09

On a bright but chilly evening this fixture saw 6 Royal Air Force athletes take to the track to compete against a well attended meeting with athletes hailing from a plethora of clubs.

Despite only one woman representing the Women’s Team, Fg Off Ester Sandiford, took 1st place in the women’s discus with a winning throw and season best of 40.40m. To add to this win Ester was placed 4th overall in the combined men and women’s results.

The Men’s Team saw a series of impressive performances: Flt Lt Rob Barker Davies fired out of the blocks in his heat winning in 11.50 and Flt Lt Nav Childs took third in 11.27.  Moving onto the 200m, the dynamic duo took 1st and 2nd place in their respective heats.  Flt Lt Nav Childs stormed home in 1st place with a time of 23.03 and Flt Lt Rob Barker-Davies took second in 23.17.  Building on the evenings success SAC Patrick Barber, didn’t disappoint in the 400m, rising to the challenge and earning a well earned 2nd place with 56.87 and SAC Mark Oak placed 4th with a respectable 58.70.  SAC Nick Gaulder, a seasoned road runner, made a return to the track after 10 years absence and despite a disruptive tailwind and a disappointing result he showed great spirit and determination.
