RAF Men and Ladies Boxing

A number of competitions are either run by the RAFBA or involve participation by one or more of the RAF representative teams. The RAFBA runs the Annual Lord Wakefields tournament which is open to all RAF Station Teams. This is a Novice competition however it gives the RAF Coach and Team Manager the best oppertunity to view potential boxers to represent the RAF Boxing Team in future events. .

RAF Boxing Team

The RAF Boxing Team consists of the both Novice Boxers in Class (A) covers those boxers who have had less than (10) bouts) in total, these would fight 3 rounds x 2 mins or Class (B) covers those boxers who have had less than (20) bouts in total, these would fight 4 rounds x 2 mins. The team also has senior members who box at Intermediate and Open class .

Regular training camps are held for the squad usually at either RAF Uxbridge or RAF Odiham and will culminate in a tournament. These squad training events are vital not only for the boxers to improve their skills but also for the coaches to nurture and bond with the boxers.

There is no seperate RAF Female Boxing Team which caters for females at present within the RAF, but this is only due to low numbers. Ladies are encouraged to join the Boxing Team as the team is always on the look out for committed players who wish to represent the RAF.

The Coaching Staff headed by Head Coach Cpl Owen Spensley, ensure that the Squad works hard and continuously improves ready for the highlight of the year, the Inter-Services Competition versus the Army and Royal Navy. The Team Manager ensures that all the administration needs of the team are taken care of, so that the boxers can concentrate on Boxing.
