WYTON AREA VOLUNTARY BAND (WAVB)

The RAF Wyton Area Voluntary Band is one of 8 voluntary bands within the RAF that provide essential music support to the RAF and local communities. The Band is based in Cambridgeshire and is a group of enthusiastic volunteer musicians from the East of England catchment area of RAF Wyton, RAF Brampton, RAF Henlow, RAF Cottesmore, RAF Marham and RAF Wittering. The Band appears at all kinds of venues including military events, civic parades and charity concerts. The Marching Band regularly supports Remembrance Day parades, Battle of Britain events, Freedom Parades and Veterans’ Association Reunions. The Concert Band is very much in demand throughout the East of England for charity concerts, raising thousands of pounds each year and bringing military music to towns and villages in the area. The Fanfare Team, consisting of a team of 4 trumpeters, supports civic events, including mayoral inaugurations and has performed at Peterborough Cathedral. The Big Band, “Rhythm in Blue”, plays music from the 40s, 50s and 60s – from Miller to McCartney – and is ideally suited to balls, parties and less formal charity events. The Clarinet Ensemble has its own repertoire of classical and contemporary music and performs at dinners, balls and weddings. The Dinner Band, consisting of 15 to 20 musicians, plays the WAVB’s full repertoire of music and provides musical accompaniment for more formal dinners.
