Phantom begins its final journey home

RAF Brampton’s long-serving Gate Guardian, Phantom XT914 has begun its final journey home. Removed from its plinth on Wednesday 1 February 2012 it will shortly be dismantled and transported to Wattisham Flying Station in Suffolk.

On Friday 20 January Wing Commander Robert Cook said farewell to RAF Brampton Wyton on taking up a new post of interim Station Commander RAF Henlow. In his stead Wing Commander Mike Brown takes up the reins as Station Commander RAF Brampton Wyton.

RAF Brampton has said a final farewell to its long serving Gate Guardian the Phantom XT914. In preparation for the RAF station’s closure at the end of 2013 the Gate Guardian is to be dismantled and taken to Wattisham Flying Station in Suffolk.

Major Mitchell follows in the footsteps of Captain Scott

At the end of December 2011, RAF Brampton’s Major Julian ‘Mitch’ Mitchell will be heading out to the icy wastes of Antarctica on a two month expedition of exploration and scientific research with twenty four other members of the British Armed Services. The team of hardy Armed Forces men and women will be departing exactly 100 years since Capt Scott’s expedition and as such will form part of the national celebrations commemorating his achievements and contribution to science.

Santa on the run!

Father Christmas along with reindeer, elves and fairies arrived early at RAF Wyton this week. Nearly fifty lookalikes took part in a Santa Fun Run to raise money for the East Anglian’s Children’s Hospice (EACH). EACH supports families and cares for young people with life threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk and is one of RAF Brampton Wyton Henlow’s chosen charities for the year.

RAF Wyton hosts Christmas lunch

On Monday 5 December RAF Wyton hosted its annual ‘Friends and Neighbours’ Christmas lunch. Each year at Christmas the charity committee at RAF Wyton invites residents from local care homes, members of the Royal British Legion, and retired members of the Officers and Sergeants Mess to a lunch party. Seventy-two elderly guests attended from around the Huntingdon area
