Mr Roy Hunte Biography
Roy joined the RAF as a PTI in 1974 and qualified as a Physiotherapist in 1985. Roy has always had a passion for rehabilitation and exercise and loves the thrill associated with healing people and getting them fit at the same time. He has always had an interest in physical fitness and is acutely aware following a gymnastic accident how life can change in seconds and can emphasise with Servicemen and women who may have incurred life changing injuries whilst on operational detachments overseas.
A talented all round athlete Roy has also represented Great Britain as a heavyweight boxer and was in the 1976 Olympic Squad. He was also the RAF and Combined Services Heavyweight Champion.
As a physiotherapist and trainer Roy has worked with some of the best athletes Britain has ever produced and is held in extremely high regard by all who have worked with him. He was physiotherapist and trainer to the British Bobsleigh Team from 1982 to 1988 including World Cups and 2 Winter Olympics. He was invited to coordinate the physiotherapy for the Elite Athletes at the London Marathon by Sir Christopher Brasher and continues to work with the best athletes in the World at that World Class event. He was invited by Sir Steve Redgrave to work with the hugely successful British Rowing Team to help prepare them for the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. He has also supported the RAF , Scottish and British Ski Teams throughout the years and has worked with celebrities and athletes from all over the World.
Roy was posted to Lossiemouth in 1992 as a PTI but very quickly started to spend more and more time as a physiotherapist working from a room in the old Corporals club from which the new physiotherapy department has evolved.
Roy has been involved in helping raising significant monies for charity over the years spearheading the Stations Children In Need campaign over the last 15 years or so. In his capacity as Chairman of the Moray Swing Band he has also been instrumental (pardon the pun) in helping raise many thousands of pounds for charities over the years.
Over the years he has met many wonderful, talented and generous people many who have become good friends. Roy is looking forward to helping Jason, Nick, Peter and Andrew raise as much money as possible for Help for Heroes and can only say thank you to the Station Commander and all at RAF Lossiemouth for their support
