WO Nick Styles Biography

WO Styles

Having been in the Air Force for 24 years I have actively been raising money for a whole host of different charities throughout. I took up cycling in 2005 and as the bug took hold I incorporated the buzz of bike riding with the pleasure of raising money for charity.

Last year I was part of a 4 man team that completed a gruelling John’O’Groats to Lands End cycle ride over 11 days, raising over £2,500  for a wet room to be built for Flt Lt Jan Martin who was tragically injured on an assault course at Barry Budden ranges and is now wheelchair bound.

I am very excited of the challenge of cycling across America with Sgt Jason Lewis, raising money and awareness for such an important charity as ‘Help for Heroes’. I am both confident and determined and have a very good feeling that we will indeed complete the journey safely and help raise an enormous amount of money that will go a long way to help build the new gymnasium and swimming pool, required to better help rehabilitate our troops injured in combat across the World.
With the expertise of Mr Roy Hunte and his associate Pete Taylor from the Metropolitan Police covering a lot of the administration and essential First Aid and physiotherapy it gives us an enormous chance of completing what will be an outstanding effort by all who is involved.

The essential training programme is currently being formulated by myself and will start from Monday 7 April 08. It will include a lot of evening and all weekend training rides leading up to our departure day next May. During both the training and actual journey phases it is going to be a testing time for both the team and our families. Without the support from them and the Station I wouldn’t contemplate entering into such a challenging epic journey. RAF Lossiemouth to date has been so enthusiastic and focused on what we are trying to achieve and all sections approached for assistance so far have been magnificent in helping us in any way they can.

A special thanks must go to the Station Commander, Gp Capt Monkman for his enthusiasm and commitment to the project and in the way he has been instrumental in helping us to reach our goals during these early planning and training stages to the journey. We have this dedicated website for the trip so it can accessed by anybody to view the progress and read the daily updates that will be posted on the site as well as a video diary.
