Aerosystems Training Wing (ATW)

ATW accounts for almost half of the permanent staff at DCAE Cosford, comprising over 500 Service and Civilian staff dedicated to the delivery of Aerosystems Management and Technical Training. ATW provides an extensive range of courses and trains in excess of 5000 students annually.

Training that ATW is responsible for comprises:

  • Avionic systems and equipment trade training to Phase 2 trainees, Phase 3 and IDT students.
  • Airframe and Propulsion Systems and Equipment trade training to Phase 2 trainees, Phase 3 and IDT students.
  • Forward and Depth Weapons training to Phase 2 trainees and Phase 3 students.
  • Forward training to Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic trainees using live aircraft in realistic scenarios, replicating the Aircraft Maintenance Mechanics role on an operational squadron.
  • Delivery of Avionics and Mechanical Principles to Phase 3 and IDT students, which underpinning knowledge is required for systems training delivered in other areas.
  • Delivery of Management and Promotion training to Trade Groups 1, 2 and 3, Engineering training to Junior Commissioned Officers, Uninstalled Engine Test House training to both Service and civilian personnel, Expedient Repair training to Trade Groups 1 and 2, and LITS delivery and development.
  • Delivery of Survival Equipment Training to Phase 2 trainees, Phase 3 and IDT students providing basic, pre-employment and trade management training.

Delivery of hand skills training to Mechanical, Avionics and Safety Equipment Phase 2 trainees, Phase 3 and IDT students.
