Keith Roland Holmes Memorial Trophy
This award, the Keith Roland Holmes Memorial Trophy isawarded annually to the station that has contributed the mosteffectively to the sport of cycling throughout that year.
The origins of the trophy go back to a family all of which were members of the RAF. Fg Off Keith Roland Holmes was a junior road race champion in 1966 before joiningup. He joined as a pilot at just 17 and after training was posted to RAF Laarbruch on 16 Sqn to fly Canberras. Whilst here he wasinstrumental in the setting up of the then RAFG cycling association andbecame its first secretary. Still training and racing hard he met anuntimely and tragic end when he crashed during a low level missionclose to the Rhine in 1971. His family donated the trophy to ensure that the sporting spirit of the officer it commemorates lives on.
It is awarded to Units as a just reward for the hard work,training and dedication that the riders from that respective Unit havemade to RAF Cycling.
