Operations Wing
The Officer Commanding Operations Wing is Wing Commander Ian Robinson who is tasked directly by the Station Commander with ensuring the operational capability of No 1 Flying Training School (FTS).
Operations Wing at RAF Linton-on-Ouse comprises Air Traffic Control Squadron, Station Operations Flight, Fire Section, Meteorological Office and Security and Regiment Flight. Operations Wing provides operational support to Training Wing and manages the airfields at RAF Church Fenton and Topcliffe in addition to the hub of the 'clutch', RAF Linton-on-Ouse. ATC and Fire Section Staff at Dishforth are also provided by Linton-on-Ouse.
Moreover, the Wing is responsible for the guarding and physical security of both RAF Linton-on-Ouse and RAF Church Fenton. Finally, the Wing provides Common Core Skills and first-aid training; live-armed guard training; and post crash management training to 1 FTS Service Personnel. Outwith the main effort and, as additional tasks, the Wing also provides Air Traffic Control Services to the British Army at Dishforth airfield in support of 9 Regiment Army Air Corp and Air Traffic Control and meteorological services to the local General Aviation fraternity who utilise the North Yorkshire Airspace.
The Wing’s task is varied, challenging and interesting; no two days are the same! Accordingly, Operations Wing personnel have to be well-trained and be highly flexible to carry out their duties effectively.
