TRAINING PROGRAMMES

Grounschool Phases.

Phase 1 – A four week programme that introduces BFJT students to the design and operation of the Tucano aircraft, its systems and equipment. In addition students learn the important features of local and regional weather to develop the basic meteorology received previously. Training is given on all aspects of land survival and rescue as well as on other important areas such as physical fitness, and a balanced programme covering Health and Safety at Work, Equality of Opportunity, Fire, Security, Beliefs and Values, Flight Safety and Personal Administration. Progression onto the flying phase is dependent on success in the groundschool examinations which cover all the Tucano-specific subject areas and meteorology. Survival and rescue aspects are assessed and examined on the Land Survival Exercise enjoyed during the final week.

Phase 2 - A one week period during which student pilots are introduced to the planning techniques and equipment needed for the early navigation sorties flown at both high and low altitude. Two synthetic training systems are used during this phase, one to enhance aspects of visual low level navigation and the other to develop the use of Tucano’s avionics systems.
