12 Squadron

12(B) Sqn

Welcome to the online home of 12 (Bomber) Squadron, based at RAF Lossiemouth.

The modern Sqn is a very busy place, with commitments ranging from continuing support of the reconstruction of Iraq, to a wide range of exercises in the UK and abroad.

12 Squadron was formed in February 1915 from a flight of No. 1 Squadron.

At the beginning of WWII the squadron used Fairey Battle aircraft and were stationed in France in 1940. They later used the Avro Lancaster. At one point they were stationed at RAF Wickenby in Lincolnshire.

From 1969 up to 1993 it used Blackburn Buccaneer in anti-shipping role, with Martel missiles (from 1974). In 1993 it was disbanded.

In September 1993, No. 27 Squadron RAF then at RAF Marham disbanded and immediately re-formed as No 12 Squadron.

Current role

During the period January to April 2001, the Tornado GR1s were replaced with upgraded Tornado GR4s. No 12(B) Squadron continues to support British forces in Overseas Operations
