Christopher Fraser MP visit RAF Marham - July 2007
Christopher Fraser Member of Parliament for Norfolk South West, recently visited RAF Marham, the only remaining air base in Norfolk. After receiving an initial brief from the Station Commander, Group Captain Phil Osborn, he visited IX (Bomber) Squadron, one of the four resident GR4 Tornado Squadrons. On the Squadron, Mr Fraser was shown how a mission was planned and then briefed on the cockpit instruments by the Squadron’s Boss, Wing Commander Dave Waddington.
After lunch he had a tour of the Depth Engineering facility and met Service, BAe Systems and Rolls Royce personnel. At the end of the visit Mr Fraser said “I very much enjoyed my visit to RAF Marham. I was very impressed by all that I saw and in particular the maintenance work being done on the Tornado fleet. I congratulate the RAF and its partner, BAe Systems and Rolls Royce on the part they are playing in the UK’s strategic defence operations, which is clearly paying dividends.
I was encouraged by the Station Commander’s comment about low flying and noise, and I shall continue to represent the concerns of the community in this regard.
I very much look forward to future briefings at the Base and to building a closer working relationship with the team".
