Gold, Silver and Bronze for Marham at the RAF Artificial Ski and Snowboard Championships 2007
On Friday the 28 September 2007, six personnel from RAF Marham attended the RAF Artificial Ski and Snowboard Championships 2007, held at Xscape snow dome Castleford. The squad of 3 Skiers was a mixture of experienced and novice racers. Sgt Roger Carpenter one of our more experienced competitors, helped by coaching the other members of the squad less experienced at racing. This led to fantastic results for Marham, with Roger obtaining a Bronze medal in the men’s slalom ski race and RAF Marham winning silver in the inter station event the team Comprised of:
Sgt Roger Carpenter
Sac Sam Fell
Lac Will Noble
The snowboard competitors also a mixed squad of experienced and novice racers continued to hold RAF Marham’ s head high above the rest with Sgt Chris Clark coming 10th, Cpl Chris (Bruce) McGarry coming 5th, and Cpl Raz Nutley 1st to win Gold in the Snowboard slalom. The second event for the snowboarders was the duel slalom where the competitors go head to head. Chris Clark and Chris McGarry where knocked out of the competition by the semi finals but Raz went on again to win gold despite very strong competition.
The Artificial Championships is followed by the Alpine Ski and Snowboard Championships 2008. This will be held in January 2008, at Saalbach and Hinterglem, in Austria. It is open to all RAF personnel, dependants and MOD Civil Servants, from complete Beginners to race standard Ski and snowboard.
