RAF Marham Work Experience Comments - October 2008

Seb Brantigan – Photographic Section
I travelled up to the Norfolk Show with SAC Royal from the photographic section and I was allowed to use a Nikon D70, a high tech camera with amazing quality. There was plenty to do and see, and a good opportunity to take photos. I had to pose for some since it looked a lot smarter in my cadet uniform. I spoke to the RAF Regiment and got a chance to use the Weapon Simulator and I felt I did well on that. I also had a look at what weapons the Regiment use, such as a powerful sniper rifle with a 900 metre range. I would like to thank the photographers, especially SAC Royal for arranging this opportunity. It was the highlight of my week!

Ben Mitchell – XIII Squadron
Work experience can be daunting to even the most outgoing of people, but once you have had a small taster you will not want to leave. I was quite hesitant about coming to RAF Marham but also looking forward to it. I went with the ‘Sootys’ to check out the propulsion side of things on the Tornado GR-4 but the thing I enjoyed most was being with the aircrew looking at pre-flight plans and debriefs and also the engineering side of things.

Amy Ellingworth – Catering Squadron
The Work Experience at RAF Marham was a lot better than I expected. Everyone made me feel so welcome and I felt like part of the team and didn’t really want to leave. During the week I did lots of stewarding and ‘cheffing’ and I loved it. I can’t wait to join the RAF!

Damien Jarmen – Tornado Propulsion Flight
I enjoyed stripping the engines and fixing and testing NCU’s. I got on well with the people in the section and was pleased that they said they would employ me as a full member of the team – it was a confidence boost!
