TCS/MTMS/GEF
My first day was bad at the start because we were an hour late and had ruined the plans for that day but once we settled in it was ok. When I arrived at my placement it was hard to settle in at first and my placement was with TCS (Tornado Components Squadron), which is where they get all the parts from the Tornado which has to be checked to see if it has any faults. I had my lunch in the crew room, which was good because I got to play darts and it I was able to interact with my work colleagues. This is not the desired career I would like.
My second placement was MTMS/GEF, which is where you work on the vehicles and this was good because I was able to get my hands dirty and work on Landrovers. The good thing that has happened is that I have chosen MTMS as my desired career and it was fun. I got to go round in a fire engine, sit in the cockpit of a Tornado and turn it on. The best thing about work experience is that it has helped improve my communication skills.

Mong Bay/AGSIS/Battery Bay/Boz Bay
30 Apr 07 – Today was my first day of work experience and I had a Health and Safety brief and then went into the Mong Bay which fixes and services any piece of machinery that doesn’t haven’t an engine. Today was very good.
1 May 07 – I went over to AGSIS which specialises in bomb lifters and it was brilliant. We went around the airbase servicing VAP 500’s, which lift the bombs onto Tornado’s and I interacted well with the officers I was working with.
2 May 07 – Today I went into the Battery Bay which was quite boring and we looked for components in a big catalogue which was boring.
3 May 07 – I was over at MT which was excellent. I worked on the specialist hire which means I worked on the cranes, fire engines and ambulances. It was really good fun today working with lads from Lynn.
4 May 07 – I was back in Mong Bay today, and worked with Fuzzy and Mark who were a laugh. We serviced trolley and stairs to get up to the cockpit on the fighter jet.
8 May 07 – Today is my birthday and I got to sit in the pilots seat of a fighter jet which was really cool and also worked in the Avionics Bay with my sisters ex-boyfriend but it was a laugh being there.
9 May 07 – Went to IX(B) Sqn and where I was able to see the fighter jets taking off, it was really good.
10 May 07 – Today I worked in the Boz Bay and I was working on the Boz pods.

GEF/MTMS
I found my workplace to be very exciting ad interesting. The MTMS section was better because they had more work than GEF, so I had more to do.
Before I started my first day at work I was nervous of meeting new people and what they would think of me. But after that I don’t even know why I was nervous because all the people there were very nice and kind and they looked after me until I knew where I was and what I was doing. The bad things about the placement were there were hardly any jobs so I didn’t do much. The highlight of my experience was on the 4th day when I was in MTMS because there was so much to do unlike in GEF and I had a real great time with the lads. The low light of my placement was the 2nd day because I had nothing to do. I had lunch in the Junior Ranks Mess most days. The food in there was very good and did not cost a lot. The experience has definitely enlightened me about my career choices in the RAF.

Tornado Componemts Squadron (TCS)
I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay at RAF Marham. The people are very friendly and I would recommend it to anyone interested in the RAF. Don’t be nervous just make sure you talk to people and you will be sure to make new friends and learn a lot. There is a lot to learn and you have to pay attention but the people are very relaxed and even taught me to play darts!
Well recommended. Give it a try!
definitely enlightened me about my career choices in the RAF.

TCS
I was very pleased to be picked for this placement after being in the air cadets.
I have found the ‘Marham Experience’ both very enjoyable and informative. The best part had to be hands on the RAPTOR system to see how real time footage is processed. Overall, my interest was kept alive everyday by being allowed to work in different sections. The canteen facilities were excellent and the people I worked with were fantastic. I cannot see how anyone would not gain from this work experience.
