Kingdom Comedy Drama filmed at RAF Marham

Over a two-day period, RAF Marham, in Norfolk, hosted Stephen Fry and the Production Company filming the second series of the very successful ITV1 Sunday Night comedy drama ‘Kingdom’.

In the series, Stephen Fry plays a country solicitor and in one of the episodes, to be shown in the Spring next year, he is acting on behalf of a local girl that has had an affair with an American serving with the USAF and fallen pregnant. Stephen Fry goes to the USAF base “RAF Fakenheath” to remonstrate with the Officer Commanding and the story has an interesting twist!

To give the story an authentic background RAF Marham was asked to provide three locations; Crash Gate 5, an Ops Room and a Hangar with a GR4 Tornado in it.

Filming took place at the main entrance to “RAF Fakenheath” which happened to be Crash Gate 5! 2/31 Squadron Planning Room was converted to an American Air Force Ops Room and the GR4 in the Rubb Hangar, on Alpha Dispersal was turned into an F15..

On completion of the filming on the unit, Stephen Fry said” Of all the locations we have filmed at, this has been by far the best. It has been wonderful to work on a military establishment and it has brought out the “child” in us all. Irrespective of one’s views on politics, we are all very proud of our Royal Air Force”
