Chf Tech Hunt leads the Band of the RAF Regiment

Flight Sergeant Barry Hunt LLCM ALCM

Born in Wandsworth, Flight Sergeant Barry Hunt subsequently moved to Devon and East Sussex. He was educated at Ringmer Secondary School and Lewis Technical College Music, where he studied the Tuba and Bass Guitar.

He joined the Royal Air Force in 1980, and following basic training at Royal Air Force Swinderby and further musical training at the Royal Air Force School of Music at RAF Uxbridge, was posted to the Band of the Royal Air Force College at RAF Cranwell.

Promoted to Corporal in 1984, and subsequently posted to the Band of the Royal Air Force Germany at RAF Rheindahlen in 1986, he started to develop his interest in further training for the post of Drum Major. During this time, his duties took him to many parts of Europe including trips to Sardinia, Monaco and Bavaria.

In 1990 he returned to the UK and was posted to the Western Band of the Royal Air Force at RAF Locking near Weston-super-Mare, where he gained his further promotion to Sergeant before undertaking active service with the band during the Gulf War.

In 1991 he achieved his ambition by becoming Drum Major of the band, and in this role he has subsequently performed at many engagements from small village fetes to the Royal Tournament and the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in the UK along with extensive events overseas in Cyprus, Hong Kong, the Falkland Island and Northern Ireland.

Following the closure of the Western Band of the Royal Air Force in 1998, Sergeant Hunt was posted to the Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment upon its relocation to Royal Air Force Cranwell, and was promoted to Chief Technician in 2003.

In January 2008 Barry was promoted to Flight Sergeant and, following a brief period with the Band of the RAF Regiment, will now be responsible for the organisation of all the engagements under taken by the Band of the Royal Air Force College.
