SAC Matt Walker
SAC Matt Walker grew up in Derbyshire where he began his musical studies, playing the piano from an early age. Taking up the drums at 14, he was soon gigging as drummer/singer with Rock covers bands and drumming in various Jazz outfits. A move to Belgium at 16 saw him take up Tuned percussion, and he was awarded a Performers Certificate in Drum Kit from Trinity College.
Moving back to England at 18, he gained an honours degree in Jazz Studies from Leeds College of Music, where he was tutored in Drum Kit by Tony Mann and received direction from Jazz legends Tony Faulkner, Didrik Ingvaldsen and Omar Puente. He performed extensively whilst studying, including dates with the latter two of the aforementioned luminaries and a residency at one of Leeds’ biggest Jazz clubs.
Matt joined the Royal Air Force in October 2006 and received his first posting to the Band of the Royal Air Force College. With a long standing ambition to be a big band singer he feels privileged to have the opportunity to perform with the military Band and Swing Wing.
