Who Is Based Here?
RRH Neatishead is spread over a number of sites, each with a specific function and role to play in the operation of the station. This section gives details on all the sites, their functions and the RAF personnel you can expect to find there.
Neatishead Site: The site is divided into 3 areas upon the old RAF Neatishead site :
RRH HQ Building.
Formerly the R15 Radar building, which was subsequently converted to house the Station Regiment and Police Flight. The building which is manned 24/7 provides accommodation for the site secure communications, IT server and the site’s Service engineers.
RRH Admin Building.
Formerly the Supply Flight building, it now provides work accommodation for the administration services for RRH Neatishead, namely Serco Supply and MT operations, budget management, Site Estate Representative, Registry and mail services, together with the Babcock Dyncorp site representative and technical services.
Air Defence Radar Museum.
Provides accommodation for the Air Defence Radar Museum, which is open to the public throughout the year and has numerous displays covering the history of RAF Neatishead from its early beginnings in Sep 1941 and the history of radar itself. The building was formerly used as the Sector Operations Centre during the Cold War and in the mid-1990s was, with the permission of the Station Commander, given ‘encroachment’ status and established as The Air Defence Radar Museum. The old Operations Room has been ‘listed’ and the building itself ‘scheduled’ by English Heritage. The future of the whole building complex is currently under discussion at Command and Ministerial level, with a view to it being ‘gifted’ to the Museum trustees, at which point it will no longer be the responsibility of the Service.
Transmitter Site.
The Transmitter Site is an unmanned site, providing accommodation for the Transmitter electrical equipment and associated aerials.
Receiver Site.
The Receiver Site is an unmanned site, providing accommodation for the Receiver electrical equipment and associated aerials.
Trimingham Site:
A 24/7 manned satellite site of the RRH . Home of the Type 93 Radar and the Station's Operators and Site service engineers.
Weyborne Site:
An unmanned site that is the location for the 2 AEGIS aerials. The Weyborne Site also contains previously used accommodation, which is now under care and maintenance.
Single Living Accommodation (SLA) Site.
This site provides accommodation for RRH single and married, unaccompanied personnel and consists of 13 misappropriated Service Families Accommodation (SFA) houses, with each house accommodating 2 Service personnel. The SFA is located within the DE HD SFA site at Sprowston, Norwich; some 9 miles south of Neatishead
