2010 RAF TENNIS SEASON – ALLOCATION OF COACHING GRANTS

1. The responsibility for managing and allocating the annual Player Development Plan has now been transferred from Director of Tennis to Chf Tech Hughes as Head Coach. We have learnt a great deal from this initiative and I plan to develop it further. To that end the following changes will be implemented for the 2010 season: as follows:

  • The Player Development Plan (PDP) will be renamed the Player Development Grant.

  • Criteria for the grant has been refined and simplified.

  • Each grant has been increased from £150 to £200.

  • The grant can be used for competition costs as well as coaching fees.

2. Inter Service titles are not easy to win and it is our renewed goal that in 2010 the Ladies and Men’s’ Teams Men’s Team will join our 2 Veteran Champion Teams and make it a clean sweep for the RAF. To do this we need to be more determined, realistic and dedicated in our preparation and that begins now.

3. The Coaching Team’s’ philosophy is “To provide the opportunity for each RAF tennis player to maximise their tennis performance and realise their full potential in the sport”. The Coaching Team of Emily Quinn, Stuart Reevell, Chris Evans, Andy Keeley and myself me are here to help you achieve your goals for the 2010 season.

4. The Player Development Grant remains the focal point and if you achieve the success criteria on the application form you give yourself the best opportunity to realise your tennis potential. As in previous years, training, coaching and playing can be undertaken in your local area and squad get-togethers will be mainly restricted to RAF representative matches, domestic tournaments and beat-up training prior to both Inter Services. Additionally, this year Flt Lt Chris Evans has worked tirelessly to organise an overseas training camp in mid May for potential Inter Service players.
