09 Inter Station Festival
RAF INTER STATION TENNIS COMPETITION – 2009
Over recent years the RAFLTA has continued to seek ways to improve the RAF Inter Station event so that the maximum number of stations may compete. The Festival format has been in place since 1999 and has met with considerable success. This year’s event is scheduled for 2 days in Jun for both the ladies and men’s competition. It is hoped there will also be an opportunity for players to receive coaching during the competition. Although changes to the actual format of the Competition may be made nearer the time due to the number of teams that enter the Competition, the current format for the 2009 Inter Station Competition is as follows:
Play will be at the RAF Tennis Centre Halton:
(1) Men’s – 2-3 Jun.
(2) Ladies – 2-3 Jun.
Teams will comprise:
(1) Men’s - 4 players.(can include Ladies, but not if they are part of a Ladies team)
(2) Ladies – one doubles pair.
Depending upon the number of teams entering, teams will be seeded and split into a maximum of 4 groups, with no more than 4 teams in each group.
Stations are able to enter more than one team into this competition (subject to the maximum entry number in sub-para c above). When more than one team is entered:
(1) The OIC must provide the Referee with a list of player’s names for each team.
(2) Once the first point of the first match has begun a player cannot subsequently play for any of the other team(s) from his station or unit.
For the Men’s event only the top two teams will progress into the A Cup or B Cup as a result of their group position. The group winners will proceed into the A Cup and the runners-up into the B Cup.
Depending on the number of participating teams, the format may be amended accordingly. If more than 16 teams are entered entry may be restricted to one team per station. This will usually be notified in advance, but the decision of the Referee on the day will be final.
The semi-finals and finals will be knockout rounds.
Stations wishing to enter this competition are requested to complete the Men's Entry Form or Ladies' Entry Form and return it, as detailed on the proforma by no later than 15 May 09. A draw will then be held and stations will be advised of the group in which they will compete, although it must be emphasised that these groupings are subject to change if station numbers vary. The results of the draw will be disseminated to Station OICs by e-mail on 27 May 09. When selecting personnel for inclusion in station teams OICs Tennis are reminded to include personnel employed at remote sites that receive parenting support from the host unit, as these personnel can be forgotten and thus denied the opportunity to participate in this event.
OICs wishing to discuss entry of teams into this event can contact the Competition Secretary Flt Lt Steve Hawkins – by phone on 95481 6485 or e-mail on LYN BSW-PMS P1 OC.
