Wing Commander Moriarty - OC 208 Sqn

Wg Cdr Eugene Moriarty Wing Commander Eugene Moriarty joined the Royal Air Force aged 19 in Sep 1989. After flying training on the Jet Provost and Hawk aircraft his first operational tour was on XIII Squadron at RAF Honnington flying the Tornado GR1A in the reconnaissance and attack roles.

After a short spell in Headquarters 1 Group at RAF Benson in 1996, he was posted to 208 Squadron at RAF Valley to instruct on the Hawk T1. This was followed by an exchange tour at Canadian Forces Base Moose Jaw in Saskatchewan flying the Hawk 115 as part of the NATO Flying Training in Canada scheme. He returned to the UK in 2003 on promotion to Squadron Leader with a posting to XIII Squadron again, this time at RAF Marham as a Flight Commander on the Tornado GR4. During this tour, he deployed with the Squadron to the Middle East on two occasions , flying operational missions over Iraq in support of Operation TELIC.

In 2006 he was posted to the Equipment Capability area within MOD Main Building. Promoted to Wing Commander in 2008, Moriarty was deployed on a six-month tour in the UK Air Component Headquarters in support of Operations HERRICK and TELIC. A short spell in the 22 (Training) Group UK Military Flying Training System Headquarters in Bristol preceded his attendance on the Joint Services Command and Staff Course at the UK Defence Academy in Shrivenham in 2009.

Wing Commander Moriarty has over 3500 hours of fast jet flying experience of which some 2000 hours were spent instructing on Hawks. He moves to RAF Valley on appointment as Officer Commanding 208 Squadron.

Wing Commander Moriarty is married to Charlotte and has 2 sons and 1 daughter. In his spare time he is a keen triathlete and enjoys water sports and most outdoor activities.
