Administration
The aims of the RAF Alpine Championships are to encourage fitness, competitive spirit and morale courage as well as developing organizational and leadership skills amongst officers and NCOs. The Championships also seeks to transition recreational skiing and snowboarding skills into racing with the ultimate aim of identifying new talent to represent the RAF at the Inter-Services Championships.
In order to ease the organizational burden, all personnel attending the Championships should be coordinated by a Unit (or Parent Unit) OIC. OICs can register at the OIC Registration page. Remote/detached personnel may register as Individuals.
Eligibility details are given in the Admin Order but in a nutshell, all serving and ex-serving RAF, other military and MOD personnel may attend regardless or rank or ability. Contract and dependant civilians may attend if sponsored and accompanied by a member of the RAF.
OICs are responsible for ensuring that accommodation and travel arrangements are made for personnel under their control. OICs will find details of the resort package (accommodation, compulsory insurance and lift pass) at the resort website - www.saalbach.com/raf. OICs will need the required username and password which will be issued following registration. Response to registration is not automated and may take a few weeks.
OICs are also responsible for coordinating travel arrangements, for which serving personnel will be eligible to claim some costs back. Full details on this and other allowances/requirements are in the Admin Order for the 2012 Championships (available via Airspace). OICs without access to Airspace should email the Admin Secretary for their copy.
An OIC/Team Captains Guide is also provided to help with preparing and attending the event. Click the link to view/download.
Details of the racing and training programmes offered by the Championships are contained in the RAF Alpine Champs page of the Airspace site (see link on home page). However, for specific race-related queries, we may also be contacted on: rafalpinechamps@hotmail.co.uk
The Championships are supported by the RAF Sports Lottery and competitors will receive a discount on their lift pass costs for each RAF Sports Lottery ticket they hold (maximum 5)
Email contact is preferred and can be sent using the contacts link on the Airspace site.
