The Team

Tucano Formation

In order for the RAF Tucano to display around 60 times throughout the air shows season requires an enormous team effort. Although it might appear on the day of an air show that the Tucano Display Team comprises of the pilot and his commentator, there are in fact many people from RAF Linton-on-Ouse who have worked tirelessly for many months to ensure that the Tucano Display can go ahead safely and as planned.

The Display Pilot is the public face of the team but working with the pilot is the Display Manager who, among many other duties, co-ordinates the diary, flies the spare aircraft and also provides the commentary for the display. In addition, the Manager will liaise with airshow organisers and the public throughout the year and is responsible for all of the publicity material.

The Display Supervisor and his deputy act as mentors and monitor the safety of the show in the work-up to the beginning of the display season and continue this throughout the summer months. In addition, the Display Pilot has his own mentor, who has previous experience of a display season and is on hand to provide advice both in terms of flying and organisational gotchas. All these posts are filled by members of Flying Wing, No. 1 Flying Training School, at RAF Linton-on-Ouse as secondary duties in addition to their primary role as Qualified Flying Instructors.

A successful work-up period before commencing the display season would be impossible without the support and assistance offered from Air Traffic Control, Station Operations and the rest of the Support Staff at RAF Linton-on-Ouse. Finally of course, the pilot would not have an aircraft to fly at all if the aircraft wasn't serviced, maintained and readied for the display season by Babcock engineers and staff.

All these personnel form the RAF Tucano Display Team, without whom there would be no display.
