RAF Air Cadets in Scotland connect with Astronaut Chris Hadfield

In an extraordinary turn of events, Civilian Instructor (CI) Chris Thomson from 2329 (Castle Douglas) Squadron has forged an inspiring connection with renowned astronaut Chris Hadfield.

By chance, CI Thompson had a video call with Hadfield, sharing insights into the RAF Air Cadets which resulted in a recorded video message from Hadfield himself to the Air Cadets in Scotland.

During their conversation, CI Thomson detailed the various training, activities and opportunities available to cadets. As a testament to the achievements of the cadets, Chris Hadfield generously provided a recorded video message, along with two official photographs—one featuring himself and another showcasing fellow astronaut Tim Peake.

The video and photographs have been shared with the Squadron and Squadrons throughout Scotland.

Earlier this year, the RAF Air Cadets announced the launch of their Level 2 BTEC certificate in Space Studies, designed in consultation with military space specialists from UK Joint Space, the National Space Centre, teachers and the RAFAC Space Team.
