BBMF takes part in the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Flypast

On Thursday 2nd June, BBMF were tasked to take part in the iconic Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Flypast, having celebrated 70 years on the throne. The BBMF is well used to being involved in state events over London, but for this very important occasion the stakes were extremely high. Over 70 aircraft from all three services came together to begin the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, with a flypast over The Mall and Buckingham Palace, executing a plan that was both spectacular and safe, whilst the Royal Family watched from the famous balcony.

The BBMF Formation followed behind four waves of helicopters, led by Lancaster PA474 and with Spitfire P7350 and Hurricane LF363 on the starboard wing, and Spitfire MK356 and Hurricane PZ865 on the port wing.

It was an honour for all on BBMF to be involved in the flypast, and the cheers from the crowds in London were easily matched by the roar in the BBMF crew room where those left behind watched on TV as the aircraft passed over the palace.
