BAME Apprenticeship Awards 2021 Success

Senior Aircraftman Maryam, a Cyberspace Communications Specialist, has successfully reached the finals for the Digital & Technology category in the Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) Apprenticeship Awards 2021.

To be held on the 30th September 2021 at the Edgbaston Stadium, the Awards will showcase the range of talent within the BAME communities who have made achievements during their apprenticeships offered by employers and learning providers.

Maryam started her specialist training at Number 1 Radio School, RAF Cosford in June 2019 where she enrolled on the Unified Communications Technician Apprenticeship.  Graduating from training in March 2020 she has consolidated her training with practical experience after completed her Apprenticeship in March 2021.

The RAF strives to provide opportunities and rewards for its diverse workforce of young talent from all walks of society.  This ensure success when meeting operational requirements both now and in future of the RAF, as well as identifying, recruiting, training and retaining the very best talent.

Apprenticeships remain as vital to the RAF’s capabilities as they were when the first entry of RAF Aircraft Apprentices arrived at RAF College Cranwell, in 1920.  Now, RAF Recruitment and Selection has dedicated teams who promote collaborative working with our Faith and BAME Networks.

The RAF has 3400 apprentices on programme, spanning across 20 different trades, at any one time; making the RAF confident that their next generation will continue to grow its diversity and opportunity, while delivering high quality specialist tradesmen capable of enabling today’s Service to operate worldwide. 

Maryam’s success at the 2021 BAME Apprenticeship Awards is exemplary of the talent within the BAME communities and the achievement that can be made from opportunities in apprenticeships; the RAF congratulates Maryam on her outstanding achievements.
