Chief of the Air Staff appointed Patron of the Women in Defence Charter
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston, has today been announced as the Ministry of Defence’s Patron of the Women in Defence Charter.
The Women in Defence Charter was launched in September 2019 to improve gender balance in the Defence sector, both public and private. More than 50 organisations, including the Royal Air Force, have committed to drive inclusion and diversity throughout their workplaces, providing fair opportunities for women to succeed at every level. The Charter’s primary aim is to enable women to thrive in Defence whether they are military or civilian, enhancing their individual and collective impact and in doing so, improving defence’s overall output.
I am delighted to be the MoD Patron to the Women in Defence Charter. I look forward to building on the great work achieved since the launch of the Charter in 2019, driving forward diversity and inclusion across our organisations and enhancing opportunities for women in Defence.
Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston
Chief of the Air Staff
The Women in Defence Charter has set out a clear ambition for a minimum of 30% of Defence sector roles at all levels to be filled by women by 2030.
