RAF 60 Second Update

The latest 60 Second Update goes around the world in 53 days! 

This episode comes from RAF Shawbury, who have marked the 80th anniversary of the first British military aircraft to fly around the world. In this episode:

  • RAF and Italian Air Force engineers are swapping servicing and maintenance tasks on exercises and Air Policing missions to improve joint effectiveness.
  • The RAF Global Enablement's Medical Force has received the 2023 Firmin Sword of Peace Award for outstanding humanitarian contributions & delivering critical medical care to thousands in need.
  • In 1944, a Lancaster named Aries, was the first British military aircraft to fly around the world. It took off from RAF Shawbury on 21st October 1944 and returned 53 days later on 14th December, covering 36,000 nautical miles over 2,000 flying hours.
