RAF 60 Second Update

The Royal Air Force joined the nation in celebrating the 80th Anniversary of VE Day with a flypast this Bank Holiday. While some of our aircraft were entertaining crowds in London, the rest of the RAF was busy protecting the skies.

  • Thursday 8th May marks 80 years since VE Day when the Second World War ended in Europe. We recognise the courage and sacrifice of the Greatest Generation who secured the freedom and prosperity we continue to defend today
  • Get to know 144 Signals Unit, part of the Expeditionary Radar and Airfields Squadron, deploy to remote locations, maintaining equipment that the RAF uses to monitor aircraft across the UK’s skies
  • Sport plays a huge part in maintaining both physical and mental fitness for deploying on operations. Recently, the RAF Rugby Union men and women’s teams took on the Royal Navy at the Inter-Services Championships in Northampton
  • We shout out to everyone at Ascension Island Base who provides essential support to British Forces South Atlantic Islands and the Falkland Islands, 4,000 miles from the UK and the Falklands
