RAF among 15 NATO nations taking part in Exercise Ramstein Flag 2025

The Royal Air Force completes week one operating in Exercise Ramstein Flag 2025! 76 years in NATO and the RAF is proud to take a leading role, integrating air power and training in a co-ordinated and effective manner alongside international allies and partners.

Exercise Ramstein Flag 25 seamlessly demonstrates the UK’s strength, readiness, and commitment to our allies.

Hosted by the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF), this exercise involves over 90 aircraft operating from 12 Allied air bases supported by over 15 nations.

‘This year’s exercise is tailored to provide Allied forces with advanced training in a complex, contested, operational environment. Priorities for Exercise Ramstein Flag 25 include exercising Counter Anti-Access/Area Denial (C-A2AD), Integrated Air and Missile Defence (IAMD), Agile Combat Employment (ACE), and seamless information sharing across Allied Nations.’

Last week, RAF Marham welcomed six F-18 Hornet aircraft from the Spanish Air Force along with support personnel to the base. The Spanish F-18s are participating in Exercise Ramstein Flag 25 daily from the base.

RAF Marham personnel have been working hard to ensure that the deployment to the base by the Spanish Air Force has gone smoothly. This has demonstrated that our people, infrastructure training and support are fit to current and future demands enabling us to facilitate our partner nations at any time whilst also supporting operations with our own assets.

“It has been a real privilege to welcome our Spanish partners to RAF Marham for the first time in recent years.  I am extremely proud of the way that the team at RAF Marham has come together to support this exercise, whilst providing resolute support to the ever-busy Lightning Force”

From Scotland, RAF Typhoon aircraft have practiced air to air refuelling, alongside partner nations. From RAF Lossiemouth, OC 1(F) Squadron, Wing Commander Morris, said: “Exercise Ramstein Flag is a great demonstration of the RAF’s ability to integrate into NATO Operations at range. Enabled by Voyager tankers, 1(F) Squadron are conducting high end Large Force Exercises from RAF Lossiemouth into Danish, Dutch and German airspace in coordination with European Air Traffic Control and Tactical agencies."

The performance and efficiency of the Typhoon allows us to cruise high and fast to and from the area of operations where we meet the Voyager to refuel and then conduct offensive or defensive missions in a contested environment. The opportunity to conduct such a high-profile exercise and to integrate and learn from our NATO allies is invaluable training to our pilots and operation aviators alike."
