RAF Typhoon performs flypast for Queen's birthday celebration in Romania

An RAF Typhoon has performed a flypast over the Romanian Capital City of Bucharest in celebration of the 92nd birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The RAF Typhoon flew in formation with a pair of Romanian Air Force MiG -21LanceR, followed by the American built F-16 Warhawks aircraft. The aircraft overflew Bucharest city centre, over the Palace Of Parliament to perform the flypast over the guests at the British Embassy’s Garden Party reception to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday.

The Commanding Officer of 135 Expeditionary Air Wing, Wing Commander Chris Ball and a number of personnel under his command, were invited to join the celebration at the Garden Party in Bucharest.

The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis and Senior military personnel from the Romanian Air Force and United States Forces were also invited to attend, including the Chief of the Romanian Air Force Staff, General Viorel Pana and the United States Black Sea Area Support Team Commander, Colonel James McGlaughin.

Following the opening speech by Mr Paul Brummell, the President of Romania was invited by the British Ambassador to say a few words. He said:

“I would like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to the people of the United Kingdom, Her Majesty’s Commitment in Romania is an inspiration to our world leaders. I would like also like extend my appreciation to His Royal Highness the Prince Of Wales for conserving our countries heritage.”

The reception marked the official birthday of Her Majesty the Queen, the Queen celebrates two birthdays each year, her actual birthday on 21 April and her official birthday which usually falls on the second Saturday in June.
