“15 Squadrons deployment to RAF Akrotiri has further demonstrated the professionalism, energy, and drive to exploit opportunities that have become synonymous with the Squadron. By investing time, resources, and people, they have enhanced both physical infrastructure and the security culture. The real measure of success for any deployment is leaving a place in a stronger position than you received it; 15 Squadron have achieved that and more”

Wing Commander Cooper, Officer Commanding No.3 Force Protection Wing

In early October, Force Commander Air Commodore Jamie Thompson and Group Captain Julian Weekes visited the Squadron to see the progression of Force Protection across the Station. The visit showcased the developing capabilities of the Resident Force Protection Unit including new, cutting-edge experimentation implemented into the Squadron and meeting with 903 Expeditionary Air Wing Air Mobility Protection Team to discuss first-hand experiences of operations.

“The deployment of specialist RAF Force Protection capabilities has enhanced the security and ground defence of RAF Akrotiri and its surrounds. For the RAF Regiment, this is a return to one of their old stomping grounds. Knowing the area, they have wasted no time in re-establishing Force Protection infrastructure and mounting extensive patrols to ensure the safety of the Air assets and people located on the base. At the same time, we have taken the opportunity to work with British Forces Cyprus, our innovation teams, and industry to push the boundaries of experimentation with Force Protection technologies. This will be a game changer for the RAF and the Next Generation Force Protection enterprise.”
