Personnel from the RAF Force Protection Force have deployed to Romania to support 140 Expeditionary Air Wing on Operation BILOXI.
RAF Police from the Specialist Police Wing, Counter Intelligence Operations, 1 RAF Police (22 Group Squadron) and 4 RAF Police (Typhoon) Squadron are working alongside RAF Regiment Regulars and Reserves from 5 Force Protection Wing at RAF Lossiemouth to provide enhanced Force Protection to 140 Expeditionary Air Wing throughout the 4-month Operation.
"We are delighted to be supporting 140 Expeditionary Air Wing in the delivery of Operation BILOXI 22. Our ‘Whole Force’ Force Protection contribution will be a critical enabler in ensuring the safe delivery of NATO Air Policing and Enhanced Vigilance Activities from Romania."
Squadron Leader Handley
5 Force Protection Wing
During the deployment the Force Protection Force will deliver specialist capability advice to the Expeditionary Air Wing Commander which will focus on how to protect and defend RAF Assets from both traditional and emerging threats. Additionally, they will provide a physical protection of RAF assets and personnel through quick reaction force and crisis response teams, flight line security and static guarding commitments.
"The small RAF Police contingent are enjoying the challenges that supporting 140 Expeditionary Air Wing presents, particularly working closely with our Force Protection partners, the RAF Regiment, in addition to Host Nation and Visiting Forces and local authoritative policing and security agencies."
Warrant Officer Camm
Detachment Security Officer
The enhanced air policing mission demonstrates NATO’s flexible capabilities and readiness, whilst underlining the commitment of allies to each other.
