The RAF Police held its annual symposium at RAF Honington last week.
RAF Police Provost Officers and Warrant Officers from across the Force and wider Defence joined Provost Marshal (RAF), Group Captain Wilkinson to discuss:
- Security for the Next Generation Air Force
- Looking to the future to find new and innovative ways to enable Air and Space Power
- Security challenges of the Space domain and the vital part the RAF Police will play.
In his opening speech Group Captain Wilkinson said:
The RAF Police are in a good place, but we must continue to empower our people to seek out new innovative ways to carry out our role. He added: “The introduction of the RAF Police Operating Model has meant that more resources are focused on providing high levels of protective security to Next Generation capabilities.
The symposium welcomed Professor Philip H.J. Davies, Professor of Intelligence Studies, Director Brunel Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies who sparked conversation and debate on subjects like counterintelligence concepts, 21st century counterintelligence and the specific implication for UK Air/Space Power. Professor Davies will continue to work with the RAF Police for the remainder of the academic year, developing the Counterintelligence portfolio to counter emerging threats, as part of the Force’s wider innovation of security for the RAF and Defence
Air Commodore Flewin, Head of Space Operations, Plans and Training spoke about how Space will become more congested and contested by the end of the decade, so we should look at security that extends beyond the platform. Our objectives should be to enhance our knowledge, skillset and understanding to be able to Secure and Defend Space, especially as technology develops.
The 2-day symposium concluded with a Q&A session with the Deputy Principal Security Advisor for Air, Force Protection Wing Commanders, and the Combat Air Force HQ Security Officer.
